While lockdown is in place, please follow the rules. You risk both contracting the virus and spreading the virus among people who are homeless.
Instead please support service centres and food drops in your area. You can find a list of running service centres here or support your nearest food drop here through this donation form.
Alternatively, you can volunteer to support one of the service centres or food drops. Please Get in Touch using this form to register your interest.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How can I help someone asking for help on the street?” tab_id=”1585561111559-095f4b1e-8e1f”][vc_column_text]
- Check this map of serving points to identify your closest point (service centres or hotspots for food drops). This map is updated, so check regularly
- Print the map and give it to people who are homeless in your area (please respect social distancing)
- If there is no service centre within 5 km of where you are, ask the homeless person where they stay and how many are there, thenget in touch and report the new hotspot here so we can try to include it in a food drop
[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Why are there still people who are homeless on the streets?” tab_id=”1585565427570-91ae0408-0383″][vc_column_text]The City of Cape Town is working hard to open temporary shelters during this lockdown. So far they have extended the Colemborg Bridge safe space in the CBD to accommodate an extra 250 people. This is now at capacity. However, there between 4,000 and 9,000 people who remain homeless on the streets who cannot be accommodated.
In the interim, U-turn and NGO partners (like Khulisa and the Service Dining Rooms) are providing food drops to hotspots. Please support this below.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How can I help?” tab_id=”1585566027337-78accd44-f41a”][vc_column_text]You can…
