Hi, I’m Cathy. I’m a champion on the U-turn phase 3 work-readiness programme. My passion is communication and I’m part of the U-turn communication team. Every week I will be writing a blog post sharing my personal experience on this programme, to give you a window into the experience of being a champion on the U-turn programme.
Last week I shared the good news that my homelessness had ended and that I am living in my own apartment. Today I have more good news to share.
When a champion is on Exit Stage of the Phase 3 Work-readiness programme, they are guided to independent living and explore employment and accommodation possibilities with their life coach. To graduate from Phase 3 Work-readiness programme, you must secure employment and have stable accommodation.
Towards the beginning of last month, U-turn employed me as receptionist and social media coordinator. April 1 was not April fool’s day for me. It was the day I became a U-turn employee.
That morning I woke up excited. I thank God for my job. After all my efforts to find employment, after multiple rejected job applications, I was finally employed.
I arrived at U-turn head office excited for my new journey. I wrote my details on the COVID-19 screening log, as usual but something had changed from the previous day. Today I circled the letter “E” for “employee”.
Although the day was like any other day, welcoming staff at reception as they arrived with a big smile and completing my other duties, I felt empowered. There was a song in my heart that I had to contain.
I feel that God is using U-turn as the potter’s wheel to mould me as God’s clay into the vessel He wants me to be.
Join me next week, as I share more about my Exit Journey.
